Creating World Champions - Team Australia Profile - IOTA

21-May-2018 Yet Australian students have achieved this pinnacle 5 times in 14 years. They have also achieved 2nd place 6 times, 3rd place 5 times, 4th place 3 times and 5th place six times.

It takes hard work and loads of support from their families, their teachers, their school, industry and the community at large.

This year 4 teams of Australian Students will be representing Australia at the upcoming 2018 F1 in Schools World Finals in Singapore in September. The stage is set for the biggest F1 in Schools World Finals ever held in the history of this award-winning global educational initiative with 60 international teams competing.

And one of these teams comes from the small NSW Country town of Tumut.

Team IOTA from Tumut High School, located in the NSW Snowy Mountains, will be taking on the best in the world ... to hopefully become our next World Champions.

Team IOTA: Bronson Sutton, Vince Wood, Corey Crain, Ethan Parker, Andy Dodds & Ethan Contessa (not in photopraph).

Tumut is a town which has its origins intertwined with the development of the Snowy Mountains Scheme, our greatest National Engineering feat.

A town which is again given birth to a new generation of resourceful and innovative young Australians keen to take on the world... no one said they couldn't.

F1 in Schools challenges students to create their own Formula 1 team to design, construct and race a miniature Formula 1 Car; a 21cm long scale model and powered by a compressed gas cylinder.

At the World Finals each team presents a pit display, written portfolio, verbal presentation and their design is assessed by a team of Engineering judges. The cars race on a 20-metre track, with the cars covering the distance in around one second. Australia are the current World Record holders at 0.916 seconds and also current F1 in School World Champions.

The F1 in Schools STEM Challenge inspires a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. It develops in these students all of the next generation enterprise skills the World Economic Forum has defined for success in a changing world.

This will be a trip of a lifetime for the students. Not only for having to cope with the intense pressure of competing at the highest international level, but also as a learning opportunity. Along the way they will learn about success ... they will learn about failure ... and all of the emotions in between. They will learn resilience ... and they will become the best STEM students in the world

These are the students you will want to employ. They are the students who will develop and lead the next National Engineering feat... the next Snowy Scheme .
